Bing Webmaster Tools Verification Using Meta Tags & WordPress SEO by Yoast | WP Learning Lab
In this tutorial I'm going to show you to set up Bing Webmaster Tools and verify your website in it.
The first step will be to install a plugin called WordPress SEO by Yoast that will make the verification process a little bit easier. So let's install that plugin.
To install this plugin please log into your WordPress dashboard, hover over Plugins and then click on Add New.
On the next page type "WordPress SEO by Yoast" into the search bar. The plugin we want should be the first one in the top left.
Click on the Install Now button and then click Activate after it's installed.
You will see a new entry in your WordPress admin menu (on the left) called SEO. Hover over that and choose General.
On the next page click on the Webmaster tab at the top. You will see 4 fields for Webmaster verification, one of them is for Bing website verification.
Next, go to the Bing Webmaster Tool Box at www.bing.com/toolbox/webmaster.
Either sign into a Microsoft account (hotmail, rocketmail, or outlook) or create a new account if you don't have one yet.
Once you've logged into your Bing Webmaster tools you can register your website with Bing by clicking on the Add Your Site button near the middle of the page.
Simply fill in the fields on the next page to get started. You will have the option to add sitemaps for your website if you have them. If you don't, you can leave that entry blank and add them later. Here's how to add sitemaps later: https://youtu.be/_TPzV7Rlmu0.
Once you've completed the form click the Add button. On the next page you'll be given 3 options to verify your website. The second option is the one we're doing for this tutorial.
Copy the alphanumeric string in the Content parameter and paste it into the Bing Webmaster Tools field in the WordPress SEO by Yoast plugin. Click on Save Changes.
Now go back to Bing WebMasters tools and click on Verify.
If everything went well you see the profile page for your website. There won't be any data there yet, but it will start showing up within a few days.
And that is how you do Bing Webmaster Tools verification via the meta tag option.

Can you create a video on how to verify site ownership on big to Bigcommerce using meta tags. Thanks
It helps, Thanks man
I've followed the same procedure but bing webmaster still floats the messege " Bing could not verify ownership of this site. See below for more details:"
Very clear instructions. Thank you.
it says in red <meta> tag not found before <body>: make sure you place the verification tag with the correct verification key (AD02E6F649B1298A90331D9545A8F53A) in the <head> section and before the <body> tag in your page.
And with that Bing is not able to verify my website.
Thanks. Having followed your directions it still did not work for me as Bing was still not able to verify my site, but thanks anyway.

A very straight forward video!! Thanks.
Omg thank you!! I had been copying that whole string of code and pasting it everywhere. This video is the only one to actually spell out that it should be added to the webmasters tool tab and that we only needed a part of the string. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Did same as you have showed. Bing could not verify your site. I used many other plugins, even tried html editor, result is always same. But with the same process google has verified my site. Please help. Tha nk You
Excellent video. Thank you.
I'm at my wits end with this... sorry to ask for assistance, but just don't know what else to do.
(UPDATE: I solved it! All I needed to do was CREATE A CHILD THEME. Once I did that, I clicked VERIFY and it Worked! Woohoo! NOWHERE did I see mention that a child theme was REQUIRED. Didn't think of it because I was just adding the tag using the Yoast plugin... I discovered the solution by chance. So I am leaving my original post here in case someone else encounters this frustrating problem)
Here's the situation:
I have a live website. I verified with google about 6 months ago. I CANNOT verify with bing...
I use the Yoast plugin. I have the Bing verify code in the Bing Webmasters Tools box in the Yoast dashboard Webmasters tools tab. If you go to my homepage, control+u, control+f and paste in the tag from Bing Verify ownership page - in this case: <meta name="msvalidate.01" content="5C8423B1E6559E2C028887284E5EA485" />
You WILL find the meta tag EXACTLY as above - EXACTLY as Bing shows it. HOWEVER, when I click VERIFY, I get the "Bing could not verify ownership of this site..." error. The reason is shows is:
Meta Tag URL http://AAAAAA/ (I replaced domain name with AAAAAA/ so as not to appear as spam) Verification key incorrect: make sure you place the verification tag with the correct verification key (5C8423B1E6559E2C028887284E5EA485) in the <head> section and before the <body> tag in your page.
Again, I USE Yoast. And here is the code EXACTLY copied from my site control+u (you can see it is INSIDE the Yoast tag) <meta name="msvalidate.01" content="5C8423B1E6559E2C028887284E5EA485" /> <!-- / Yoast SEO plugin. -->
I have even tried using another plugin called Insert Header and Footer. It also places the exact meta tag in the header - can find it on a control+u search, but still Bing will not verify. I have tried every possible combinations of the 2 plugins, and to no avail.
I ensured there is only 1 "msvalidate.01" on the site, so no conflict there. I cleared my cache.
I opened the header.php to see if I could add the meta tag there, but I use x-theme and there is really no visible info in that file other than the title for the theme. (and I had this problem BEFORE switching to this theme, but just gave up for a while. I just revisited the issue again today).
I've wasted more than a full day on this problem. Trying combinations, googling potential solutions - but cannot find a fix. Like I said, the tag is THERE, but Bing won't verify it... (and it is a legit site about Estate Planning - nothing even REMOTELY illicit or illegal).
ANY help would be appreciated, OR if can point me to a location that CAN help. Thank You!
